The Challenge
Indy Johar of 00 Architects has graciously agreed to act as the independent adjudicator. At the start of the 48 hours he will provide a 2-page brief explaining his vision for a web-based application. It will then be up to the various teams to interpret and realise his vision as much as possible over the weekend.
[Indy will be available at the London venue for further clarification by the teams for most of the 48 hours.]
The Rules
- All work done by the various teams during the 48 hours would have to be released as open source at the end of the challenge.
- Teams are limited to 9 people.
- Teams cannot work beyond 7pm on Sunday, 18th November.
- Teams will have a maximum of 9 minutes each to present their work at the end before the winner is announced.
The Venues
Whilst teams are free to work wherever/however they wish, there are currently 2 venues to gather around:
- The Hub (London) (TBC)
- Bootlab (Berlin)
Those who live too far away are welcome to join in via IRC — #esp on irc.freenode.net.
The Teams
(Updated: Oct 15th)
There are currently 3 teams in place. You are welcome to create your own. (Let us know in the comments!)
The Zope 3 team believes that the component architecture and wealth of code in Zope 3 combined with the experience of their team of professional programmers will give them the upper hand.
- Fergus Doyle (junkafarian)
- James Arthur (thruflo)
- Joerg Baach (jhb) (TBC)
- Richard
- Tom Salfield (salfield)
The Kalati team has inexplicable belief in their currently non-existent framework (as of Oct 16th). So much so that at least one third of their team will be comprised of non-coders and another third with people who’ve never used the Kalati framework before the week of the challenge.
- Joe Short (JoeShort)
- Mathew Ryden (oierw)
- Øyvind Selbek (talonlzr) (TBC)
- Sofia Bustamante (olasofia)
- tav
- Tim Jenks (Jenkz) (TBC)
The Mashup/DTSTTCPW (Do The Simplest Thing That Could Possibly Work) team takes the motto of “Complicated Name, Simple Solution”. Decrying any one framework as being the best, they believe the best approach is to do a Mashup by simply write glue code to existing applications.
- Dmytri Kleiner (tricknik)
- Mamading Ceesay (evangineer) (TBC)
- Yan Minagawa (t)
The Ruby team ask you to not believe the hype and instead feel the magic by working with Rails/Camping — the framework where the most valuable resource is the programmer’s satisfaction.
- Stephan Karpischek (kpi)
Others who might join in include:
- Charles Goodier (mediovia)
- David Pinto (happyseaurchin)
- Josef Davies-Coates (qopi)
- Simon Fox (MrFox)
The Small Print
Don’t take the event too seriously. It’s first and foremost about having a fun, yet productive, weekend with interesting people.
