Numbers for Sustaining Our Souls -why map numbers?
- our [future] (if there is much of one left) is bound up in the compound mistakes history made - usually mistakes a very 2nd millennial system called [nations] compounded across its borders both on neighbours and its own peoples; why are people still chained primarily by manmade land boundaries given that nature's waves know no boundaries and nor does the www value [distance]?; in 2004 (2 weeks before the tsunami)peace and indigenous networks and I were in Delhi at the Indira Gandhi National Centre of Arts; our chief guest was the minister for broadcasting and we were listening spellbound to the philosopher [Nandy], who gave us an audit of how many hundreds of millions of its own people 20th C nations had killed; I so wished governors of the [BBC -world service owned by the people for the people] had been there- wasn't Nandy on to inconvenient truth story worth a bit of transparent investigative journalism, by and for? and how about Nandy's big question - do you really think a networked 21st C do better? ... my own guess is probably not unless the www wish of Berners Lee is rediscovered or 50% of the world's leaders become women very fast- but then I am the first to confess I do not understand why people let national governments war on them; I dont know how as a parent ([or teacher]) of a 10 year old to explain how we ([world citizens] across nations) have all lurked over the last 10 years of exponentially accelerating destruction of human sustainability -[do you?]
- many [collaboration city] events need prolonged network space; open space's minimum for transformation is 3 days (72 hours) and that assumes all the people most deeply connected by a conflict transformation can turn up at the same time! By mapping citizens numbers we can also link world citizen networks
- there are certain magic numbers to maps and systems - for example its impossible for a map to truly exist without 3 (triangular data) - I wouldn't trust a social network mapmaker, or anyone claiming to offer a systemic approach with a future who doesnt know why; being a humble mathematician I am not at all sure I know my way around religions; but I would start searching a new to me one by asking is there a 3-in-one story? This way one can find out which religions are topologically equivant to each other- see also relationship reciprocity researchers who have found that all the world's major religions are united in reciprocity as a core belief. I dont know cross-cultural research well enough to claim that reciprocity is fundamental to sustaining any civilisation though I know a man who does. If human stories interest you - have a look a trust flows too.
